Shobhna Morar

Shobhna is a qualified attorney with over 10 years’ experience in the field of higher education. She is an analytical, energetic, and detail-oriented attorney with extensive experience in the field of tertiary education, commercial contracts including procurement matters, IT and research matters, legal compliance, risk management, licensing, contract drafting and negotiations, and legal training. As senior legal counsel to a boutique law office at WITS, Shobhna is responsible for streamlining business practices and managing legal risks by focusing on essentials such as business contracts, corporate structure, independent contractor agreements, website terms and policies, IP, technology, and commercial related agreements as well as business risk and compliance guidance.

Shobhna holds a Bachelors in Arts and an LL.B from WITS.

Prior to joining WITS, Shobhna was the owner and managing partner of Morar Attorneys, Notaries and Conveyancers for a period of 12 years. In recognition of her responsibility to the larger community, she  volunteered her professional services to legal clinics as part of her pro bono commitment.

Shobhna is a  certified non-practicing lawyer and a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, a certified Conveyancer and Notary Public  and, a certified Mediator with the Society of Mediator’s School of Mediation, London & Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa). During the lockdown, Shobhna co-authored an article: “Legal and ethical requirements for developing a medical MOOC: Lessons learnt from the Paediatric Physical Examination Skills MOOC” which was  accepted for publication in the African Journal of Health Professions Education.

Shobhna  also served as  a School Governing Body Member at the Willowmoore High School in Benoni and a Trustee on the Board of Trustees  of a sectional title complex.
