Hemali Joshi
Director of the Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT)
University of Johannesburg (UJ)

Before joining CAT, Hemali worked at the Academic Development Centre (ADC) in integrated student success. Previously, Hemali taught Anthropology to both undergraduate and postgraduate student groups.

During her time at the Department of Anthropology and Development Studies, Hemali was awarded a Faculty of Humanities teaching award and also received the Vice-Chancellor’s award for ‘Most Promising Young Teacher’.

More recently, Hemali was accepted as a fellow for the Teaching Advancement at Universities (TAU Fellowship). Her research interests include education, technology, performance, and engaging with questions of social justice.

Hemali is also passionate about student success and believes education is about what anthropologist Michael Wesch terms as “soul-making”.
